Dr. Derrick Boakye Boadu is an emerging scholar with more than nine years of international experience. He is a Fellow of the prestigious Edward A. Bouchet National Graduate Honor Society at Yale University, an honor recognizing excellence in doctoral education and scholarly achievement. His expertise lies in leadership practices within local government administration, public and nonprofit management, collaborative governance, emergency management, and social urban policy. Derrick's current research examines the management and collaboration of local government and nonprofit organizations, with a particular focus on distributed (shared) leadership, housing displacement, community engagement, and gentrification. His research has been published in prominent journals, including the Cities and Public Performance & Management Review.
Derrick has worked at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and has earned numerous accolades, including the Anthony R. Abraham Scholar designation. He is a Fellow of the Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership, the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) Founder's Fellowship, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management's (APPAM) Excellence Fellowship. He is also a Writing Fellow at the FIU University Graduate School and the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum (AWAC).
Derrick is a recipient of prestigious scholarships and awards, including the FIU Outstanding Graduate Student Scholar Finalist and Leadership Award, the People's Choice Award at the FIU 3MT Thesis Competition, and the Distinguished Professor Meier Inclusion Award at the Public Management Research Association (PMRA) conferences. He is dedicated to advancing local government and nonprofit organization collaboration, shared leadership, and sustainable housing policies. Derrick completed his Ph.D. in Public Affairs at the Green School of International & Public Affairs, Florida International University (FIU), holds triple master's degrees from Europe, and has a bachelor's degree from Ghana. He speaks five languages, including English, Italian, and Twi.
